I have always been around computers, and naturally, computer games. When I was a child we were one of the first in our area to have a computer, and I couldn’t keep my hands off of it. I would embrace any entertaining program my father would bring home from work and spend hours playing various games and trying new programs. As I grew up I always had a PC to play with and found I had an aptitude towards technology and design. During high school I took several drafting courses and decided to attend college to pursue a degree in architecture.
I studied architecture and civil engineering for 3 1/2 years where I gained a greater sense of design and the balance needed between design and functionality. During this time the game industry was growing rapidly and becoming more popular, with a wider range of game genres. I wrote my own pen-and-paper roleplay game and wished I could create a video game based off it. I enrolled in several computer related courses as electives where I was introduced to more advanced computing topics. I learned the basics of programming, studied the history of computers, and the basics of HTML, as well as several application specific courses.
These classes renewed my love of technology, and when faced with a decision to apply for acceptance into the 4th year architecture program, then later to grad school, I researched various computer related fields. This lead me to the University of Advancing Technology where I found I could combine my love of gaming with my passion for technology in their Software Engineering - Game Programming field of study. These studies have validated my choice to switch fields as I have grown more passionate for gaming and the design and technologies behind them.
My studies focused on object oriented programming, mainly with the C++ language, with courses in Visual Basic .NET and an open source language called Processing. Being able to create a functioning program from scratch was something I thoroughly enjoyed and quickly improved in my abilities. Since graduating I have written programs for my own use, and look forward to being able to create programs as a career.
This portfolio shows of several of my programming, game, and web design projects. Feel free to contact me if you are interested in finding out more about me, my work, or have questions on anything you see here.
